WARNING TO MOTORISTS ABOUT FAKE HIT-AND-RUN SCAM ON R43

Motorists traveling along the R43 between Hawston and Fisherhaven are being warned about a dangerous new scam designed to lure unsuspecting drivers into stopping, only to be robbed.

Authorities have reported that criminals are staging a fake hit-and-run scene, with a young person lying on the side of the road, appearing injured. Concerned motorists who stop to assist risk falling victim to theft or robbery, including having their cellphones and valuables stolen.

Earlier this week, a motorist who stopped to call emergency services was warned by the police that this was a well-orchestrated scam.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE THIS SCAM

Authorities strongly advise motorists not to stop if they come across such a scene. Instead, they should immediately report it to the nearest police station or Overstrand Municipal Law Enforcement.
