R&B Legend Angie Stone Dies at 63 in Tragic Car Crash

Angie Stone, the Grammy-nominated R&B singer renowned for hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” tragically passed away at 63 in a car accident on March 1, 2025. The accident occurred in Montgomery, Alabama, as Stone and her band were traveling to Atlanta following a performance in Mobile. Their Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van overturned and was subsequently struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 65. Stone was the sole fatality among the nine individuals involved.  

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone began her illustrious career in the late 1970s with the pioneering female hip-hop trio, The Sequence. The group is celebrated for their hit “Funk You Up,” which holds the distinction of being the second rap single ever released by a female group. Transitioning to a solo career, Stone’s 1999 debut album, “Black Diamond,” featured notable tracks such as “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Life Story.” Her subsequent album, “Mahogany Soul,” included the acclaimed single “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” solidifying her status in the neo-soul movement.  

Beyond her musical achievements, Stone ventured into acting, appearing in films like “The Hot Chick” and “The Fighting Temptations,” as well as television series including “Moesha” and “Girlfriends.” Her contributions to the entertainment industry earned her three Grammy nominations and widespread respect among peers and fans alike.  

The news of her untimely death has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from the music community. Fellow artists and fans have taken to social media to express their sorrow and celebrate Stone’s enduring legacy. Singer Karyn White shared on Instagram, “My heart is so heavy after hearing our dear Angie Stone lost her life in a tragic car accident last night. Sending all of my love and prayers to her family.”
