East London, South Africa – The case against Police Captain Ntombekhaya August (49), accused of stealing over R1 million from the Crime Intelligence Offices in East London, has been postponed once again as legal proceedings continue.
August was arrested on 10 January 2025 in connection with the alleged theft and has since made multiple appearances before the East London Magistrate’s Court. On 4 March 2025, she appeared again, but the case was postponed to 2 April 2025 for the setting of a regional court date.
The allegations have sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community, as the stolen funds were reportedly linked to confidential operations within Crime Intelligence. Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the case, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.
August’s arrest and ongoing trial have raised serious concerns about security protocols within Crime Intelligence and the potential implications of financial misconduct at such a high level. The case will now move toward a regional court hearing, where further details are expected to emerge.
For now, August remains out on bail, with her next court appearance scheduled for 2 April 2025.
