Bonginkosi Khanyile (35), who faces charges of incitement to commit public violence and contravention of the Disaster Management Act linked to the July 2021 unrest in KwaZulu-Natal, appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court today for an enquiry into his failure to attend court.
Khanyile was due to appear on Monday, 3 March 2025, for the start of his trial but failed to do so, leading to a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody on 4 March 2025.
Following the court enquiry, his bail was reinstated after being provisionally forfeited, on the condition that the trial proceeds as scheduled on 6 March 2025. The case has been adjourned to that date.
