Rand West Family Demands Justice After Police Close Assault Case.

Randfontein, Gauteng – A Rand West family is demanding justice after Mohlakeng police allegedly closed an assault case despite evidence, witnesses, and video footage.

According to the victim’s family, the brutal attack occurred on December 26th, when 5 to 7 men from Mohlakeng Hostel allegedly beat their father close to death.

Case Closed Without Proper Investigation?

After recovering in mid-January, the victim opened a case at Mohlakeng Police Station. However, the assigned detective, CID Detective Mphiwa, allegedly failed to communicate properly with the family and later closed the case, claiming there was “no concrete evidence.”

This decision was made despite the availability of:
🔹 Video footage of the attack
🔹 Witnesses willing to testify
🔹 Suspect names provided by the family

The suspects named include:
1️⃣ Garage
2️⃣ Magangane
3️⃣ Thandani
4️⃣ Makhehlani (Simphiwe)

Detective Dismisses Evidence

When questioned, Detective Mphiwa reportedly dismissed the footage and witness statements, saying:

“Video footage won’t work in the magistrate’s court, and your witnesses could be your friends.”

The family has expressed frustration and disappointment with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Randfontein, questioning whether the law has changed.

Call for Intervention

The family is now appealing to:
✅ Rand West MMC of Public Safety, Duduzile Mbulula
✅ West Rand District Municipality MMC, Tumi Molusi

They are seeking clarification on the legal process and intervention to ensure that the case is properly investigated.

This raises serious concerns about justice and accountability in handling violent crimes in the community.

SAPS Randfontein Under Fire

This incident is the latest in a series of concerns over police inefficiency and alleged case mismanagement in Randfontein. The community now waits to see if officials will take action to reopen the case and ensure justice for the victim.

HMR News Updates will follow up on this developing story.
