Home Affairs & SAPS Detain Anabela Rungo in Cape Town for Immigration FraudCape Town, 15 February 2025 – Authorities have detained Anabela Rungo, the mother of Chidimma Adetshina, in Cape Town following an investigation into immigration fraud.Revoked SA Documents & Illegal StayThe Department of Home Affairs, with the assistance of SAPS, detained Rungo at a Cape Town residence early this morning. Her South African documents were revoked in September 2024 after being found to have been fraudulently obtained.Despite this, she allegedly remained in South Africa using a Mozambican passport, defying her “undesirable” immigration status.Ongoing Fraud InvestigationAuthorities are now investigating further potential fraudulent activities linked to Rungo.During the operation, investigators also found an underage child—believed to be Adetshina’s—residing with her. Home Affairs is working with the Department of Social Development and SAPS Child Protection Unit to ensure the child’s welfare.Social Media Pressure Played a RoleA notable development in this case is the role played by social media activists in keeping the pressure on authorities. An X (formerly Twitter) account, @Miz_Ruraltarain, run by Kwena Molekwa, has been actively rallying for action against Rungo and her daughter.Molekwa posted the following statement: **“Patriots, we must thank Chidimma Adetshina for arrogance. She is the reason why her mom, Anabela Rungo, is arrested. She came to the Republic of South Africa with no intentions to resolve this matter and still refused to comply with @HomeAffairsSA investigation. Our social media campaigns really applied pressure this time around. Lastly, the lady who saw Chidimma Adetshina at Waterfront CPT, Life Grand Cafe, and took that video—she is the real hero. To all ordinary South Africans who came forward to enable me to expose this family of fraudsters and drug dealers, you are highly appreciated! Moshate. Thokoza.”**This post suggests that public vigilance and social media activism played a crucial role in ensuring Rungo’s arrest, as well as keeping the case in the public eye.Next StepsRungo will be processed by Home Affairs and then handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) as she is also the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.Authorities have assured the public that updates will be provided as the case develops.Stay tuned to HMR News Updates for more on this developing story.
