Gauteng, 15 February 2025 – A dramatic police chase and shootout unfolded this morning after Gauteng Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (EC) encountered a Hyundai i20 linked to the hijacking of an unmarked state vehicle.
Hijacking of State Vehicle
The state vehicle, which was transporting two suspects to court in Booysens, was hijacked on the R554. Law enforcement officers quickly responded and spotted the hijackers’ vehicle, triggering a high-speed pursuit.
Gunfire Exchanged During Chase
The chase extended from the R554 to the R103, where suspects opened fire on the officers. Law enforcement returned fire, forcing the suspect vehicle to a stop on the R103.
Two Suspects Injured
Following the shootout, two suspects were found injured inside the vehicle. Authorities have since secured the scene and are conducting further investigations.
