Emergency services are on the scene of a fatal multiple-vehicle crash that claimed four lives on the Croc Valley Road, also known as the Old N4, near Karino in Mpumalanga.

According to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, the accident involved a Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV) and two Volkswagen Polo sedans. The two sedans were traveling from Karino towards Nelsville when one collided with the bakkie, and the second sedan then crashed into both vehicles in a devastating head-on collision.

Tragically, four occupants in the first sedan were burnt beyond recognition when their vehicle caught fire on impact. The driver of the bakkie sustained serious injuries, while the driver of the second sedan escaped with only minor injuries. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital in Mbombela for medical attention.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, with early indications suggesting that dangerous overtaking could have played a role in the tragedy.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution on the roads, particularly on high-risk routes like the Old N4.
