Western Cape – Law enforcement efforts in Nyanga have led to the arrest of suspects involved in two separate incidents, including the armed robbery of paramedics and the possession of an illegal firearm.

Paramedics Robbed at Gunpoint, Suspect Arrested

On 04 January 2025, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel were responding to a medical emergency in Dubu Street, Brown’s Farm. While stationary in Kobodi Street, they were approached by two armed suspects who robbed them of their personal belongings and medical equipment.

The incident was reported to Nyanga SAPS, and Detective Constable JW Arnold was assigned to the case. Through thorough investigations and informant networks, a suspect was traced to an address in Brown’s Farm and arrested on 07 February 2025. The accused is now facing a charge of armed robbery and is set to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court today.

Illegal Firearm Seized in Siyahlala Informal Settlement

In an unrelated case, members of Nyanga SAPS were conducting a community engagement (Imbizo) in Siyahlala informal settlement on 09 February 2025 when they received a tip-off about an armed suspect.

Officers pursued the suspect and conducted a stop-and-search operation, leading to the discovery of a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court after being formally charged.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report criminal activities as they intensify efforts to combat crime in the region.
