NELSPRUIT – Police in Mpumalanga have arrested two male suspects, aged 29 and 37, in connection with the arson attack on 51 Putco buses.

The suspects were apprehended last night following a coordinated police operation launched to investigate the violent attacks at various Putco bus depots in KwaMhlanga and Siyabuswa.

Breakthrough in Investigation

Authorities tracked the suspects after a group of armed individuals, driving a white Toyota Quantum, a Vito Minibus, and a VW Polo, stormed multiple depots, setting buses ablaze. The attacks occurred in the Moloto area (KwaMhlanga Policing Precinct) and Siyabuswa (Thabane and Maphotla).

Victims Held at Gunpoint

During the incident, employees were held at gunpoint, with one security guard sustaining a gunshot wound. The injured victims were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Key Evidence Recovered

During the arrest, police recovered:
✔ A mobile phone belonging to one of the victims.
✔ A 9mm pistol magazine (without ammunition).

The suspects, who were reportedly wearing black clothing and balaclavas during the attack, are expected to appear in court soon, facing multiple charges, including arson, attempted murder, and armed robbery.

The Mpumalanga SAPS has vowed to intensify investigations to track down additional suspects linked to the attack.
