POTCHEFSTROOM – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has commended the arrest of two suspects in connection with a double murder.
The arrests were made during a crime intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Brits Trio Task Team and Letlhabile Visible Policing on Friday, 17 January 2025, in Letlhabile Block I and G.
This operation followed after the authorities received and acted on information regarding the double murder suspects.
It is reported that the suspects are accused of fatally shooting a man and a woman in the early hours of Thursday, 16 January 2025, at a tuck shop located in Checkers Section, Maboloka village near Letlhabile. The motive behind the incident remains unknown.
The first suspect was apprehended in Block I and subsequently provided information leading the police to Block G, where his accomplice was found and arrested. During the second arrest, the police seized several firearms, including a 12 Gauge shotgun with its serial number filed off, four rounds of ammunition, and a silver 9mm star pistol, also with a filed-off serial number, along with one round of ammunition, all hidden in a garden.
The suspects, aged 23 and 28, are scheduled to appear in the Brits Magistrates' Court on Monday, 20 January 2025. The 28-year-old suspect will also face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to trace other potential suspects.
Major General Asaneng praised the team for their dedication in swiftly apprehending the suspects shortly after the crime.
