GAUTENG – Police in Gauteng have arrested three males suspected of being involved in a string of car hijackings in Pretoria. The arrests occurred on Tuesday, 14 January 2025, in Pretoria Central after the suspects were found in possession of a firearm and a VW Golf GTI, which was recently reported hijacked in Hillbrow.
The arrests followed intelligence received about the suspects' involvement in multiple car hijackings in Pretoria and surrounding areas. A joint operation, involving the SAPS Highway Patrol Unit, Tracker Connect, Cap Specialised Operations, and the Insurance Crime Bureau (ICB), led to the apprehension of the suspects.
The team identified and stopped a suspicious vehicle with three occupants in Pretoria Central. Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, police discovered a firearm and a large amount of ammunition. Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle had been hijacked in Hillbrow and was using false registration plates.
The suspects are believed to be employed by a security company based in Pretoria, and investigations into their activities are ongoing. They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court soon, facing charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle.
