A family in Newcastle is grieving the loss of a baby due to what they describe as a series of negligent actions and unprofessional conduct by Dr. Kekana during a critical moment of childbirth.

Lihle Lillybele Malinga shared a heartbreaking account on social media detailing the harrowing experience her daughter endured on Friday, 10th of January. Malinga recounted that her daughter went into labor that morning, and they promptly informed Dr. Kekana’s office that they were on their way to Mediclinic Newcastle. The family arrived at the hospital around 11:15 AM, where the patient was admitted.

However, by 12:30 PM, nurses informed the family that they could not find the baby's heartbeat, prompting Dr. Kekana to order an ultrasound. Despite the evident distress, the doctor’s presence was noticeably absent as the situation worsened. The mother began experiencing intense, nonstop contractions accompanied by vomiting, shaking, and sweating.

Malinga described how her daughter’s condition deteriorated, with unbearable pain and increasing distress. Despite several attempts to contact Dr. Kekana, she stopped responding. At this point, the patient’s grandmother had to insist that her granddaughter be sedated to alleviate her suffering.

Hours passed without Dr. Kekana’s arrival, even as the patient began bleeding. It wasn't until nearly 6 PM, after the intervention of another doctor, that the family learned the devastating news: the baby had not survived. When Dr. Kekana finally arrived after 7 PM, her interaction with the family was met with outrage, as she allegedly displayed a lack of empathy and professionalism. Malinga recounted that when the baby’s father asked for answers, the doctor responded defensively, questioning if he intended to assault her.

This tragic incident has left the family not only heartbroken but also infuriated by what they perceive as a gross neglect of duty and care by Dr. Kekana. They are now demanding accountability from the medical professional and the hospital, seeking justice for their lost child and to prevent similar occurrences for other families.

The family’s story has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with calls for an investigation into the doctor’s conduct and the handling of the case by Mediclinic Newcastle.
