Pre-Trial Hearing for Joslin Smit’s Disappearance Begins in Cape Town High Court

The pre-trial hearing in the case of the disappearance of six-year-old Joslin Smit is set to begin today at the High Court in Cape Town.

Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquin Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking in connection with the child’s disappearance.

Background of the Case

Joslin was reported missing in February 2024 from the Middelpos informal settlement in Saldanha Bay. Smith initially told police that she had left Joslin in the care of Appollis while she was at work. However, when she returned home, the child was nowhere to be found.

Extensive Search with No Results

Despite intensive police and community searches, there has been no trace of the little girl. The case sparked widespread public outcry, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Accused Remain in Custody

All three accused have been in custody since their arrests, as the case progresses through the legal system. Today’s pre-trial hearing will determine how the matter proceeds in court.
