Mokopane, 16 January 2025 — The Mokopane Regional Court has sentenced Malose Jimmy Masosa, 38, to 18 years in prison for the brutal murder of his wife, Mokgaetjie Lydia Tshabi, 37. The sentencing followed a detailed investigation into the events that transpired on the night of Saturday, 11 May 2024.

The court heard that on the fateful night, Masosa and his wife had a heated argument outside a tavern in Mapela Danisani. The couple decided to head home, but their altercation continued along the way. Mokgaetjie’s brother, who witnessed the argument, followed them to ensure her safety.

Tragically, the situation escalated as Masosa stabbed his wife multiple times with a sharp object. Despite attempts by her brother to intervene, Masosa chased him away. He then dragged Mokgaetjie to a nearby household where she was left for dead.

The police and Medical Emergency Services were promptly summoned to the scene, but Mokgaetjie was declared dead upon their arrival. The following day, Masosa turned himself in to the Mahwelereng SAPS, leading to his detention and subsequent murder charge.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Lesiba Sekutu, whose diligent investigation ensured a thorough case against Masosa. The accused appeared multiple times before the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court before the case was transferred to the Mokopane Regional Court. Throughout the proceedings, Masosa was denied bail.

On Thursday, 16 January 2025, Masosa was found guilty of murder and sentenced to an effective 18 years’ imprisonment by the Mokopane Regional Court.
