Andiswa Mengo testified against Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge at the Judicial Conduct Tribunal on January 21, 2025, alleging sexual harassment. |
Eastern Cape – Andiswa Mengo, the secretary to Judge President Selby Mbenenge, has provided emotional testimony to the Judicial Conduct Tribunal investigating allegations of sexual harassment against Mbenenge.
Mengo has accused Mbenenge of sexually harassing her through both physical interactions and electronic communication. Her testimony has painted a harrowing picture of her experience, which she described as deeply traumatic.
Under questioning from evidence leader Advocate Salome Scheepers, Mengo spoke of the emotional toll the alleged harassment has taken on her, stating, “It broke me, it took away my dignity. It took away the kindness that I have always shown to my colleagues and people around. It left me feeling exposed and devastated.”
The tribunal also heard cross-examination from Mbenenge's legal representative, Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane, who challenged Mengo's testimony, suggesting inconsistencies in her account of the events and questioning the assertion that the advances were unwelcome.
The tribunal's proceedings are ongoing, with Mengo expected to continue facing rigorous cross-examination as the inquiry progresses.
Further updates will be provided as the tribunal continues to examine the allegations and evidence in this high-profile case.
