PRETORIA – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, announced the arrest of a senior officer, aged 54, on allegations of corruption. The arrest, which took place today, 15 January 2025, stems from an incident where the officer allegedly attempted to influence a police investigation against a councillor in Limpopo.
The senior officer, stationed at the Hawks' Head Office, reportedly approached a police investigating officer on 14 January 2022, offering tenders, future favors, and even a promotion in exchange for assistance in the councillor's case. The officer’s actions were flagged, leading to an internal investigation and subsequent charges of corruption.
The accused is set to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrates Court later today.
Lieutenant General (Dr/Adv) Godfrey Lebeya, National Head of the Hawks, reiterated the Directorate’s commitment to integrity and accountability, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. "The Hawks will continue to fight crime with utmost professionalism, ensuring accountability for those who breach ethical standards," he stated.
