Gauteng Police Intercept Suspicious Vehicle Linked to Bank-Following Activities

GAUTENG – On Monday, 13 January 2025, police in Gauteng acted swiftly on information about a suspicious vehicle potentially involved in bank-following activities in the Moot area. Despite limited initial details, officers conducted preliminary investigations, identifying the vehicle as a white VW Polo with three occupants.

The information was circulated to neighboring police stations and security partners under the E2 partnership, leading to the vehicle being traced to Sunnyside. A takedown operation was carefully planned and executed.

During the operation, as officers moved into position, one suspect exited the vehicle. The vehicle was intercepted, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, while the third managed to escape. Two unlicensed firearms and false number plates were recovered from the scene.

The arrested individuals have been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Investigations are ongoing to determine their involvement in other crimes, and the recovered firearms will undergo forensic testing.

Major-General Samuel Thine praised the collaborative efforts of all involved in ensuring the suspects’ capture, highlighting the importance of effective teamwork in maintaining public safety.
