WELKOM – The Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Welkom has made significant progress in a fraud case, leading to charges against a former pharmacy employee. The 47-year-old woman was charged with fraud on 10 January 2025, following an extensive investigation into her activities at the pharmacy.

The case came to light after an audit conducted at the pharmacy revealed irregularities dating back to 18 March 2017. The audit found that the employee had been involved in fraudulent activities until 16 March 2023, resulting in a loss of over R120,000 in money and stock of medicine.

The Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit spearheaded the investigation, working closely with the Senior Public Prosecutor to build the case. The thorough investigation led to the woman being issued with a summons to appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on 3 March 2025.

This case underscores the commitment of law enforcement to tackling commercial crimes and holding offenders accountable for their actions. Further developments in the case are anticipated as it progresses through the legal system.
