This afternoon (Friday), fishermen in Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal, reported spotting what they believed to be a human body floating in the Umdloti River.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called to the scene after the two men, who were fishing on a makeshift raft, noticed the object. Upon returning to the riverbank, they immediately contacted authorities for assistance.
Reaction Officers arrived at the scene and met with the fishermen, who guided them to the area where they had made the discovery. However, attempts to locate the body were unsuccessful. Poor lighting conditions prevented the RUSA R44 Helicopter from conducting an aerial search.
The SAPS Search & Rescue Unit was also dispatched and directed to the site by the complainants, but their efforts to recover the body were inconclusive.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
