Body of Missing 22-Month-Old Boy Recovered

A devastating conclusion has been reached in the search for 22-month-old Amamkele Lishushu Mpetha, who went missing from his home in Nomcamba locality, Zinduneni A/A, Ngqeleni, on Monday, January 27, 2025. The Mthatha K9 Unit recovered the lifeless body of the young boy in a nearby river on January 30, 2025.


According to reports, Amamkele was last seen wearing a navy T-shirt and was described as light in complexion. His grandmother had been taking care of him at their home when she discovered he was missing. Despite alerting the neighbors and launching a search, Amamkele's whereabouts remained a mystery until the tragic discovery.


The police had urged the community to come forward with any information regarding Amamkele's disappearance. Detectives Capt Nomanjila and D/Sgt Pakathi were leading the investigation, with the SAPS Crime Stop number available for tip-offs.


The recovery of Amamkele's body brings an end to the desperate search, but the community is left to mourn the loss of a young life. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death are still under investigation.
