ETHEKWINI – Two women, arrested by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on November 11, 2024, have been granted bail after spending 58 days in custody. Rushendree Reddy (39) and Indrani Moodley (49) were apprehended for drugging a 75-year-old pensioner by lacing his tea with sedatives and robbing him of valuables.

Reddy was tracked to her home in Montford, Chatsworth, by Reaction Officers. She resisted arrest by holding on to her son for approximately an hour before being restrained and detained. Moodley was subsequently located at her residence in Sunford, Phoenix, where she was arrested in an intoxicated state.

Both women have a history of drugging and robbing elderly victims at various locations across KwaZulu-Natal. They have pending house robbery cases, and Reddy was previously convicted on a similar charge, for which she compensated her victim with R2 million. She received a ten-year prison sentence, wholly suspended for five years, while her co-accused is serving a lengthy prison sentence.

Yesterday, the Verulam Magistrates Court granted Reddy bail of R10,000 and Moodley bail of R5,000. RUSA had previously withheld body cam footage and the identities of both accused pending the bail application.

Further details will be released shortly.
