MALAMULELE – Thembinkosi Gift Mabunda, a 24-year-old awaiting trial prisoner, allegedly escaped from police custody following a court appearance at Malamulele on Friday, January 10, 2025, around 14:00.
According to reports, Mabunda, who hails from Hasani Mbalati village, was with four other awaiting trial prisoners and was meant to board the prisoner transport vehicle when he managed to flee. The exact circumstances surrounding his escape are under investigation by police internal processes.
Mabunda was facing multiple charges, including carjacking. Following his escape, additional charges of escaping from lawful custody and aiding a prisoner to escape have been filed, with the possibility of more charges as the investigation progresses.
