POLOKWANE – Limpopo Police have arrested 541 suspects during the high-density Operation Shanela (Kukula), conducted from Monday, 30 December 2024, to Sunday, 05 January 2025, across five districts in the Limpopo Province.
The suspects were apprehended for various crimes, including murder, robbery, assault, rape, carjacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property, and contravention of the Immigration Act.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized nine unlicensed firearms, 219 live rounds of ammunition, and four stolen vehicles. Additionally, 33 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The operations included stop-and-search procedures, roadblocks, the tracing of wanted suspects, and raids on liquor premises.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, commended the multi-disciplinary forces involved in the operation for their dedication to ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens during the festive season.
