In a collaborative effort this week, the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Homeland Security apprehended two suspects in Gauteng for offenses related to the exploitation and endangerment of minors.

First Operation: Vanderbijlpark
On Thursday, 12 December 2024, the Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Unit, Forensic Social Work (FSW), and the FBI followed up on a tip received via an international reporting system.
This led to the arrest of a 49-year-old suspect in Vanderbijlpark, who is accused of inappropriate and criminal behavior involving his partner’s 15-year-old daughter.

Second Operation: Pretoria
On Friday, 13 December 2024, authorities arrested a 41-year-old former teacher and school principal in Pretoria. The suspect allegedly exposed minors aged ten to twelve to inappropriate content and engaged in concerning grooming behaviors. Investigations have identified three victims, with efforts ongoing to locate an additional six individuals.

This operation involved the SECI Unit, the Pretoria Central Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Seizure of Evidence and Court Appearance
Authorities seized multiple electronic devices believed to contain illegal material as part of both investigations.

The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Pretoria Central Magistrates' Court and the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates' Court on 17 December 2024. The state has confirmed that it will oppose bail in both cases.

Public Safety Reminder
Law enforcement urges parents and guardians to remain vigilant regarding the safety of minors, particularly online.
