The Protea Regional Court has sentenced Siphosethu Vanqase to 40 years of imprisonment for crimes committed in 2018, marking a significant victory for justice in the fight against gender-based violence.
On 28 October 2018, Vanqase perpetrated a series of heinous crimes, including kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and rape at the Kliptown flats in Soweto. The case was meticulously investigated by Detective Sergeant Ellen Mampitla Mofokeng, whose unwavering dedication to justice ensured a successful conviction.
Delivering the sentence on 4 December 2024, the court acknowledged the gravity of the crimes and imposed a 40-year prison term. This decisive ruling reflects the justice system's commitment to addressing gender-based violence and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable.
Colonel Sithebe, Acting Station Commander of SAPS Kliptown, commended Detective Sergeant Mofokeng for her exemplary investigative work, which was instrumental in securing the conviction. "Her dedication and commitment to justice stand as an inspiration to all in our efforts to combat gender-based violence," said Colonel Sithebe.
