JOHANNESBURG – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has issued a statement addressing concerns over a recent incident involving one of its staff members aboard a South African airline. The incident, captured in a video clip that has since gone viral on social media, has sparked widespread attention.
In the video, the staff member can be heard mentioning the SABC and suggesting that the incident would be broadcast on SABC News. This statement prompted the national broadcaster to issue a response condemning the behavior and clarifying its stance.
“The SABC regrets this incident and always encourages staff members to uphold the SABC values of respect and integrity in all their interactions,” the statement read. “We would like to reiterate that SABC News is guided by the Editorial Code and maintains its editorial independence. Decisions pertaining to all news items are made in the newsroom and are not influenced by non-editorial staff members.”
The broadcaster also assured the public that it would address the matter through its internal procedures, emphasizing that the conduct displayed in the video does not align with the organization’s values.
This development has drawn both criticism and curiosity online, with many calling for accountability and professionalism among public service employees.
The SABC has promised to handle the situation in line with its internal protocols and remains committed to maintaining its editorial independence and integrity.
