NELSPRUIT – 18 December 2024 – A 41-year-old suspect who was on the run after allegedly stealing a State firearm from a police officer in Malelane on Sunday, 15 December 2024, has been arrested.
The firearm was recovered on the same day of the incident. Following a three-day search, the suspect voluntarily surrendered himself to authorities at the Nelspruit SAPS earlier today.
Details of the Incident
The suspect, reportedly a parolee, fled the scene on Sunday after stealing the State-issued firearm from a member of the police. Collaborative efforts between investigators and Correctional Services officials led to continued progress in the case.
The parolee remains in custody at a Correctional Centre, where authorities are working to finalize the charges, which may include robbery of a State firearm and other related offenses.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the arrest, stating:
