A 48-year-old Nigerian man and a 33-year-old South African woman have been arrested for alleged drug dealing following an operation conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, the North West Provincial Drug Task Team, and Lichtenburg K9 on Wednesday, 18 December 2024.
The arrests came after authorities received information about a Nigerian man suspected of selling drugs in Lichtenburg. During an undercover operation, the pair was apprehended shortly after selling drugs valued at R40,000. A total of 649 mandrax tablets, 40 packets of crystal meth, and transparent plastic containing CAT drugs were seized at the scene.
A subsequent search at the Nigerian man’s residence uncovered additional drugs, including crystal meth valued at R15,000 and CAT drugs worth R6,000, bringing the total estimated value of confiscated drugs to R61,000.
While police were processing the suspects, a 28-year-old South African woman, alleged to be the Nigerian man’s girlfriend, attempted to bribe officers in exchange for his release. She was arrested and charged with corruption.
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 20 December 2024, to face charges of drug dealing, unlawful possession of drugs, and corruption.
