PHALABORWA – Authorities in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, are investigating a tragic incident in which a man died after reportedly being set alight at his home. The suspect, identified as his former partner, is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
According to reports, the victim, Pardon Mavimbela, was socializing with friends at a local nightclub when an argument ensued between him and his ex-girlfriend, identified as Phumzile Thulisile from Namakgale. Witnesses stated that the disagreement became heated and eventually led to an altercation.
Friends of the victim reportedly advised him to leave the venue, and he returned to his home. It is alleged that the suspect later arrived at his residence, where she reportedly poured petrol on him and set him alight. She is also believed to have sustained injuries during the incident.
Emergency services rushed both individuals to the hospital, but Mavimbela sadly succumbed to his injuries. The suspect remains in the intensive care unit receiving treatment.
Police have confirmed the incident and are investigating the events leading up to the tragedy. The case has drawn attention to the urgent need for intervention in volatile and abusive relationships to prevent such devastating outcomes.
