Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Constable Siyabonga Zama Prince Thango, who was killed during a robbery in Vosloorus in July 2023.
On Monday, 02 December 2024, Hloniphani Cebolenkosi Nala (28), Tshepo Hopewell Langa (28), Nduduzo Xaba (27), and Mnelisi Nkosikhona Mbatha (28) were taken into custody by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCIU). They are linked to the tragic incident that occurred on Friday, 21 July 2023, when a group of armed robbers attacked the Shoprite Liquor store at Goldspot Shopping Center in Vosloorus.
At approximately 18:45 on the day of the incident, police officers from the Crime Prevention Unit responded swiftly to the robbery. As they approached the parking area, the suspects, who were positioned at the entrance of the store, opened fire, fatally shooting Constable Thango.
Following extensive investigations, the arrested individuals were charged with robbery, and a R5 rifle was recovered. The investigation, led by the Boksburg Senior Public Prosecutor, has now resulted in the four suspects facing serious charges.
The suspects appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate's Court, where the case has been postponed to 16 January 2025 for further legal proceedings.
