VRYHEID – A police constable was among five individuals who lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision on the R34 Vryheid-Mondlo Road late last night.
The constable, who was on duty and driving a State vehicle toward Vryheid, was involved in the crash that caused both vehicles to overturn multiple times. Tragically, five people were declared dead at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
More Fatal Accidents Reported
This morning, three more fatalities were reported following a taxi crash on the N2 near Spaghetti Junction in Durban. Emergency responders were on the scene, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
In another incident, multiple injuries were reported in a taxi accident in the Nkandla area earlier today. Details are still emerging as authorities assess the scene.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially during the festive season, as road accidents continue to claim lives.
