Bhekizizwe Radebe (26) has been found guilty and sentenced by the Standerton Magistrate’s Court to five years’ imprisonment, with two years suspended for five years. This suspension is conditional upon Radebe not being found guilty of contravening Section 5(b) and 4(b) of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act during the suspension period. Additionally, he has been declared unfit to possess a firearm under Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act.
Details of the Case
Radebe’s arrest dates back to Tuesday, 18 October 2022, when Standerton Vispol officers were patrolling the area around 5:00 AM. They encountered a suspicious man, later identified as Radebe, carrying a backpack. Upon searching him, police discovered:
• 1017 pieces of cocaine
• 17 Mandrax tablets
• The total estimated value of the drugs was R80,680, and he was found with R110 cash.
Attempted Bribery
In an additional twist, Radebe attempted to bribe the officers with money, leading to an extra charge of bribery.
The Sentence
Radebe was convicted of drug dealing and bribery. His five-year sentence includes:
• Two years suspended for five years: He must not commit further drug-related offenses during this time.
• Declared unfit to possess a firearm under Section 103.
