The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed the tragic death of an inmate who was found to have taken his own life by hanging at the Mangaung Correctional Centre on 15 December 2024.
In a statement, the DCS expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that the personal details of the deceased cannot be disclosed at this time as the family is still being notified.
"We appeal for patience and understanding as we ensure that proper procedures are followed with due respect for the family's privacy," the department stated.
The Office of the National Commissioner has since ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event to uncover all relevant details.
