Two suspects were fatally shot during an armed confrontation with Gauteng police along the R59 road in Kliprivier earlier today. During the exchange, one police officer sustained a gunshot wound.
Acting on intelligence indicating a planned cross-pavement robbery in Sedibeng, Gauteng, police intercepted the suspects’ vehicle. Upon approach, the suspects opened fire on the officers, who responded, resulting in the deaths of two suspects. A third suspect managed to escape on foot and is currently being sought by authorities.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the suspects’ vehicle had been reported stolen in Alexandra in October 2024.
Authorities commended the quick response from the multidisciplinary team, including the Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Gauteng Traffic Police, and private security firms, whose coordinated efforts successfully thwarted the attempted robbery.
