De Aar, South Africa – In a highly emotional case that has gripped the De Aar community, the bail application of 29-year-old Jeremy Bosman was denied this week in the De Aar District Court. Bosman faces severe charges, including the alleged murder of his 3-year-old stepson, Charvandre Kieran Everson, and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) against the child’s mother, Charmelle Thys, who is also 29 years old.

The charges stem from a tragic incident that reportedly took place on October 19, 2024. Court documents reveal that Charvandre allegedly faced violent abuse after wetting the bed. Bosman is accused of striking the young child multiple times and using a broom in the assault, followed by allegedly slamming the toddler’s head against a wall, resulting in life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigations, combined with witness testimonies, have shed light on the harrowing ordeal the child endured. Following the first assault, Charvandre reportedly became unable to eat or open his mouth, and another assault later that day left him severely weakened and unable to move his legs. When Bosman and Thys eventually took the boy to the De Aar New Hospital, he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. Medical personnel noted significant bruising and injuries on his body, particularly on his back, which prompted the hospital to alert authorities.

Bosman’s bail application was heard on November 1, 2024. During the proceedings, the prosecution strongly opposed his release, citing the serious nature of the charges and the danger he may pose to the community, especially vulnerable children. The court upheld this argument, and Bosman was denied bail under Schedule 6, a classification that applies to serious offenses.

Bosman remains in custody and is expected to return to court for further proceedings on December 5, 2024.
