Police Sergeant Arrested After Alleged Double Shooting of Wife and Domestic Worker
A 44-year-old police sergeant has been arrested following the alleged fatal shooting of his wife and a domestic worker at their home in Masisi, Vhembe district, on the evening of October 29, 2024. The suspect, who fled the scene after the incident, was captured following a confrontation with police on October 31.
Police located the suspect in the Makuya area, where he was seen speeding along Tshitavha Road near the Sambandou bridge. When officers attempted to stop his vehicle, the suspect allegedly opened fire on them, leading to an exchange in which he was wounded. One police officer sustained minor injuries during the encounter.
A service pistol and ammunition were recovered at the scene. Both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to a local hospital for medical care.
The suspect is now facing charges of double murder and attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Masisi Magistrate’s Court in the coming days. The arrest was the result of a well-coordinated effort by the Vhembe SAPS District Task Team.
