The Phalaborwa Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit recently achieved a landmark outcome, with 30-year-old Lethabo Issack Sedi receiving a cumulative 39-year sentence for serious offenses, including an assault and unlawful detention incident involving a minor in 2017. Sedi was convicted on charges of assault, unlawful detention, and use of a firearm.
The incident occurred when the victim and a friend were returning home. Sedi confronted them, forced the friend to leave, and proceeded to threaten and intimidate the victim. Following a diligent investigation by Detective Sergeant Khazamula Mhlongo, Sedi was prosecuted and sentenced as follows:
- Primary Offense: 25 years imprisonment
- Assault: 2 years imprisonment
- Unlawful Detention: 5 years imprisonment
- Unlawful Use of a Firearm: 5 years imprisonment
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, praised the investigative team for their thorough work, highlighting this case as an example of dedication to community safety. The sentence underscores the commitment of law enforcement to uphold justice and public security.
