Lenasia South, Johannesburg – A shocking betrayal of justice has left a young student devastated, as officials conspire to shield an accused teacher while ignoring the student’s cries for accountability. What began as an assault case involving teacher Mr. Khoza at 21 Battalion School has spiraled into an infuriating example of systemic neglect, where both the school and the Department of Labour have failed to deliver even the most basic protection.
Mr. Khoza was initially slated for suspension after allegedly assaulting the student. Yet, in a stunning act of defiance, school head Emanuel Kayizi called Mr. Khoza back to work, citing his own need for the teacher despite clear instructions from the Department of Labour. This blatant disregard for protocol undermined any chance of justice for the student, with Mr. Kayizi dismissing both the severity of the assault and the authority of the Labour Department.
The student, desperate for justice, also turned to the Department of Basic Education (DBE). However, Mr. Mnguni, the DBE official assigned to her case, offered no assistance. Dismissing her plight, he stated bluntly that “there’s nothing he can do” and suggested she simply rewrite the exam next year—a dismissive response that further compounded her frustration and left her with no resolution.
When the student sought answers from the Department of Labour, her ordeal only worsened. Mr. Gregory Xibi, the department official assigned to her case, provided no verdict or solution, failing to enforce Mr. Khoza’s suspension or ensure accountability. Instead, the case was lost in a tangle of unkept promises and unanswered calls for justice. Mr. Xibi, rather than supporting the student’s right to a safe educational environment, further contributed to her frustration by stalling the process and neglecting to provide any resolution.
This student has been abandoned by every authority she’s turned to, facing constant obstruction from officials who are more interested in protecting each other than in protecting her rights. Her trauma remains unacknowledged, her education disrupted, and her trust in the system shattered.
With each ignored complaint and every overturned suspension, this case exposes the shocking failure of our educational and labor systems to protect the very people they’re supposed to serve. Where is the justice for this student? When will those who ignored her suffering be held accountable?
