Musina Police Seize Illicit Cigarettes Worth Over R1.9 Million After Suspect Flees

Police in Musina recovered a haul of illicit cigarettes valued at over R1.9 million after an unidentified suspect abandoned them on the streets of Musina on October 30, 2024, around 7:00 AM.

Authorities were alerted to a suspicious white Toyota Quantum parked at a fuel station in the town. Upon arrival, officers saw the driver speed off, initiating a pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered 96 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes, with an estimated street value of R1,953,324. The illicit cigarettes were seized, and an investigation is underway to determine their origin and intended destination.

The police have intensified efforts to locate the suspect involved in the incident.
