In an inspiring act of kindness, a Cape Town couple demonstrated the spirit of Ubuntu by going out of their way to return money found in a lost wallet at Cape Town International Airport. Sinethemba Dastile and her husband, Luvuyo Lakel Boland, found the wallet on Saturday, 2 November 2024, belonging to Mr. Z. Tshambu. Inside, they discovered R647.50 in cash and a Capitec bank card but had no contact details to reach the owner.

Unwilling to let the wallet’s rightful owner suffer the loss, the couple decided to transfer the money directly to his account using the bank card details they found. Sharing their story on social media, they asked for assistance in locating Mr. Tshambu, so he would know his money had been returned.

Their thoughtful gesture quickly gained attention online, with many praising their act of kindness and remarking that Ubuntu—the spirit of humanity and generosity—remains strong in our communities. Comments poured in, with one user writing, “UBUNTU busaphila sana🥹❤️Thixo anenze kakuhle sisi wena nomyenakho😊🙌🫂” ("Ubuntu still lives, thank you, may God bless you and your husband"). Another expressed, “Wow, it’s rare to find people with the spirit of Ubuntu. Thixo anisikelele❤️🙌,” emphasizing the impact of such selfless acts in a challenging economy.

In a world where stories of honesty can be scarce, Dastile and Boland’s act serves as a reminder that the spirit of Ubuntu still lives among us, showing the strength of community and compassion.
