Mkhulu, South Africa – November 15, 2024

Buzizwe Zizwe Zitha, a 43-year-old court interpreter at Mkhulu Magistrate Court, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of corruption. Zitha solicited a total of R11,200 from an individual involved in a domestic violence case, assuring the victim that his charges would be dropped if payments were made.

Zitha demanded money on multiple occasions, claiming the funds were necessary for various purposes, including withdrawing the case, covering bail, and even providing the prosecutor with fuel and alcohol. This pattern of corruption and abuse of authority ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent sentencing.

This case underscores the ongoing fight against corruption within the judicial system, as officials seek to uphold justice and maintain public trust in the courts. Authorities have urged anyone encountering similar behavior to report it promptly, as the justice system aims to eliminate corruption at all levels.
