Parktown, South Africa – The Benoni Flying Squad made significant strides in crime prevention with the arrest of three suspects in separate incidents across Daveyton and Etwatwa on October 31 and November 2, 2024. These operations underscore the positive impact of community-police collaboration.

The first arrest occurred on October 31 in Daveyton's Extension 2 after the community alerted law enforcement to a suspect reportedly carrying a firearm. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the community had already detained the 19-year-old male suspect, who was in possession of a firearm and five rounds of ammunition. He was promptly arrested on charges related to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

In a separate incident on November 2, Benoni Flying Squad officers acted on intelligence about illicit cigarettes in Barcelona, Extension 34, Etwatwa. This operation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man for possessing illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R25,000. In a further action on the same day, officers detained a 35-year-old suspect on Turton Street, Daveyton, for drug possession.

These successful arrests highlight the value of strong ties between local communities and the police. All three suspects are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate's Court for their respective charges.
