A devastating car accident on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl and left a 13-year-old boy critically injured in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni. The collision occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Andrew Mapheto Drive and reportedly involved a well-known soccer player from a Premier Soccer League (PSL) team, though authorities have not confirmed his identity as investigations continue.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), the female driver was transporting her 9-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old neighbor when their vehicle was struck. Tragically, the young girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the boy sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital for urgent medical care.

The soccer player involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind bottles of alcohol and suspected drugs, which police later recovered. A case of culpable homicide, along with charges of reckless and negligent driving, has been filed against the driver as the investigation proceeds.
