A security officer was fatally wounded by KwaZulu-Natal police in Umlazi’s M-section earlier today. The incident occurred while members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Provincial Tracking Team and the Anti-Gang Unit were in pursuit of a suspect linked to a cash-in-transit (CIT) case.

Reports indicate that the security guard allegedly opened fire on officers as they closed in on the suspect. Police returned fire, critically injuring the guard. He received immediate medical attention from ALS Paramedics at the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

During the exchange, the wanted suspect managed to flee. Police are actively searching for him, while no officers were injured in the incident.
