Tragedy struck a family in Cornubia, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday when armed intruders fatally shot a mother in her home, leaving her children traumatized after being held at gunpoint.
The incident occurred when the 36-year-old woman was in the bathroom, and her 16-year-old daughter and one-year-old son were at home. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the distress call at 3:44 p.m., after a neighbor reported hearing two gunshots.
According to RUSA, the teenager returned from school and, as she was let into the house by her mother from a bathroom window, two armed men forced their way in with her. One intruder led her and her younger brother upstairs, instructing them to remain silent, while the other stayed downstairs. Moments later, two gunshots echoed through the home, prompting the gunmen to flee the scene.
After the men left, the teenager found her mother gravely injured with a gunshot wound to her head. Paramedics arrived shortly after and, unfortunately, declared the woman dead at the scene at 4:04 p.m.
This tragic event highlights the senseless violence affecting South African communities. Authorities are actively investigating the case to bring the perpetrators to justice.
