An investigation has been launched after a witness reported a disturbing gender-based violence (GBV) incident in Pretoria, involving a woman allegedly being held against her will. The incident occurred near a bus stop on Lynwood Road, close to ISA Carstens, at approximately 17:15 on 13 October 2024. The witness, an X user, posted a plea for help, stating that a man threatened them with a gun while the woman appeared to be in the car unwillingly. The vehicle in question was identified as a silver car with the registration number KBV 896 MP.

In response to the report, a police team led by Lt. Col. Maphala from the South African Police Service (SAPS) immediately began an investigation. They visited the alleged perpetrator’s residential address, obtained through circulation details of the vehicle seen in the incident. While the suspect was not found at the residence, his family members confirmed his identity and his relationship with the victim. They reported that the couple had been together on the night of 13 October and had left for work the following morning, stating that they did not observe any signs of distress between them.

The same night, members of the Tweefontein SAPS also responded to a call at 23:45, documenting the incident in their Occurrence Book (OB). The initial feedback from the police indicated no issues between the couple at that time. However, it has since been confirmed that the alleged suspect does not possess a license to carry a firearm, raising further concerns about his behavior and the threat posed during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and SAPS has urged the public to come forward with any additional information or sightings of the vehicle to assist in locating the suspect and ensuring the safety of the victim.
