Prepaid electricity customers are being reminded by Eskom to update their meters before November 24, 2024, in compliance with the Standard Transfer Specification Association (STSA). Meters that have not been updated to the new Key Revision Number (KRN) 2 by the deadline will be unable to accept new electricity tokens.
Eskom has emphasized that this deadline, set for the Token Identifier (TID) update, will not be extended, following confirmation from City Power and other relevant reports. Approximately 6.9 million meters within Eskom's service areas need this update, and without it, customers will face interruptions in their ability to load prepaid tokens, leading to non-functional meters.
Fortunately, Eskom has already pre-coded 97% of these meters, allowing customers to complete the update themselves. The update process is straightforward: customers must purchase a credit token from an approved vendor, which will then provide two 20-digit codes necessary for recoding the meter.
Eskom is actively promoting awareness about this mandatory update and urges those who have yet to complete the recoding to act swiftly to avoid disruptions. Support is available for those needing assistance, and customers can reach Eskom’s helpline at 0860 037 566.
For additional details and help, Eskom encourages customers to visit its official website, follow updates on social media, tune into radio broadcasts, or attend local community engagement sessions.
Eskom reassures customers that it is dedicated to facilitating a smooth transition to KRN2, working to ensure continuity in service for all prepaid users.
