Constable Minenhle Makhaye has been denied bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance in December. Makhaye faces charges after allegedly using a bank card belonging to a hijacking victim, whose young daughter was tragically killed during the incident, to purchase alcohol.
In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Ashwin Singh highlighted inconsistencies in Makhaye’s account of events and pointed to his track record as factors that weakened his bail application.
