Potchefstroom – Mozambique National Arrested for Alleged Murder of 26-Year-Old Nomsa Jas

A 29-year-old foreign national from Mozambique has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of 26-year-old Nomsa Jas. Jas, who had been missing since Sunday, 25 August 2024, was last seen leaving her place of work in Potchefstroom. The following day, a missing person's inquiry was registered at the Potchefstroom police station.


In a shocking turn of events, Jas's Volkswagen Polo Vivo was found at a mall in Springs, Gauteng. This discovery prompted a joint intelligence-driven operation between North West and Gauteng police forces, leading to the arrest of the suspect. Tragically, on Sunday, 08 September 2024, the partially decomposed body of Nomsa Jas was found in the bushes along the R501 road near Blybank, Carletonville.


The suspect, facing charges of kidnapping, robbery, and murder, is expected to appear in the Oberlhozer Magistrates' Court in Carletonville today, 10 September 2024. Further investigations are underway as authorities continue to search for an additional suspect linked to the case.


Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, North West Provincial Police Commissioner, and Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner, praised the efforts of the police team that led to this breakthrough. They both stressed that no stone would be left unturned to ensure justice is served for Jas and her family.


The investigation continues as authorities seek more details and accomplices in this tragic case.
